My thoughts about "Im mixed"

I have many thoughts about people who claim they're mixed. For one I experience a lot of my friends that're "prodominantly"African American pull the mixed card. They do the whole "yeah, my great/great great grandmother was _____ (typically something like Indian or Puerto rican)" *side eye* you look like an average black girl but you make sure to let people know you're Puerto rican, white, Indian and black. Yep AND black. Black is never first, it's like people are ashamed to claim the black! Whats wrong with being black? Is it the negative connotation attached to it? (i.e, slavery or the belief that we we're the "black sheep" of the country) is it that you're ashamed? Now don't get me wrong, if you're proud of your heritage then embrace it BUT typically that's not the case; it's a failed attempt to fit into society and disconnect from what these people know they truly are. Black. Lighter skinned black people usually do this the most because they're able to "pass" for different things so they take advantage of the opportunity (again I am speaking on what I experience, so don't take offense). I wish black people would accept their culture and stop trying to portray themselves as other things that they truly have no interest in representing or taking pride in but merely something used to impress others. This isn't something that's just an issue with black people but it's what I know and can speak on. If you're a true mixed person and you connect with every part of you then I tip my hat to you. If you felt insulted or attacked in any way then maybe you are guilty of this, and maybe that's not a bad thing; maybe it's something you needed to hear. How do you feel about this? Agree? Disagree? Share your thoughts.

-Sincerely Britt

LOL I agree! Well, I guess I would be considered mixed, since I'm Guyanese, Jamaican/Chinese. And when I tell people Jamaican, they automatically say "oh so your black." Well, sure, if thats what Jamaican means to you, LOL! But my jamaican side is all chinese. Like how there are white Jamaicans, black Jamaicans, and chinese Jamaicans. And then I always get the "oh, so your not spanish?" .... If I was spanish, I would have told you when I listed my nationalities LOL! I think people are always just trying to be something they are not, and for the ones who are proud of who they are, AMEN!
